Free Energy Audits

The District Department of the Environment is proving free energy audits for District homes. To qualify for this program, you must reside in a single-family home or townhouse that is no larger than 4,000 square feet. The audit will assess factors such as insulation levels, windows, wall-to-wall ratios, heating and cooling systems, the solar orientation of the home, and the water heating system. A blower is often used during the audit as a diagnostic tool to determine levels of air and duct leakage. These efficiency benchmarks are plugged into a computer program that determines the home’s energy rating which can range from 1 to 100. To apply for this program, go to http://ddoe.dc.gov/ddoe/cwp/view,a,1209,q,500328.asp
